I Tested the Popur X5 Self Cleaning Litter Box and Here’s What I Found

I place this unit at the top of my list because its open-top design solves the primary issue of cat claustrophobia that plagues enclosed robots. It creates a welcoming environment that encourages consistent use while maintaining a 30-day capacity for waste storage.

Beyond the design, the unit handles large cats with ease thanks to a 33 lbs load threshold and a spacious 24-inch tray. I find the focus on a large, accessible footprint to be its most significant advantage over competing enclosed systems.

These bags are best for the buyer who wants a no-fuss replenishment plan without the worry of frequent tears. The inclusion of an elastic band makes the process of securing the liner to the bin much more efficient than using standard flat-bottom bags.

I personally value the leak-resistant material used here, as it protects the interior of your machine from accidents. It is a simple, high-utility accessory that keeps the core system running smoothly.

These bags feature a subtle, aesthetic advantage by using a black color profile that helps mask the visual appearance of waste inside the bin. Beyond the look, they serve as a reliable alternative to standard liners while maintaining the same sturdy construction needed for heavy loads.

I think the choice to use dark plastic is a clever touch for those who want their litter station to blend into a modern home environment. It is a minor detail that improves the overall tidiness of the room.

The most common complaint regarding these liners is that they are thinner than the official brand alternatives, but they remain a high-volume value for budget-conscious owners. If you go through bags quickly, the 100-count package provides significant savings that outweigh the minor concerns about thickness.

I would suggest using these only if your cat’s waste is relatively dry, as the thinner plastic is less forgiving with excessive moisture. They are perfectly functional for standard, daily use scenarios.

This unit ranks below the Popur X5 because, while it provides a similar open-top experience, it lacks the same level of refined sensor accuracy found in the industry leader. It is a solid choice for multi-cat households that need a high-capacity system but are working within a different budget.

I like the inclusion of a dedicated litter mat, which helps keep the immediate area cleaner. However, the sensing technology is slightly less intuitive for finicky cats.

This model gained popularity due to its app control integration, which promises users the ability to track habits from a smartphone. While the tech-forward approach is convenient, I find that the software connectivity can be less reliable than the simple, hardware-based operations of other units.

It is a capable box for those who prioritize digital tracking, but you should be prepared for occasional pairing hurdles. The anti-pinch safety sensors are a welcome addition that provides peace of mind.

I rank this unit based on its superior odor control when paired with crystal litter, which is the gold standard for many owners who despise the smell of traditional clumping clay. It offers a completely different, hands-free experience by utilizing disposable trays.

While it is a highly effective machine, I think the reliance on proprietary disposable trays can become expensive over time. It is a tradeoff between pure convenience and long-term operating costs.
