I Tested the Top Lego Classic 10698 and the Results Were Impressive

This set earns its place as the best starter kit because it hits the sweet spot between variety and footprint. You receive 484 pieces that cover a wide range of colors and shapes, making it a perfect introduction for anyone new to the system.

I find the included storage bin to be an underrated feature, as it keeps your living room floor from becoming a minefield of sharp plastic. While the piece count is modest, it offers enough complexity to keep a builder occupied for hours.

This bundle is designed for the dedicated builder who knows that a sturdy foundation is the secret to a stable structure. By pairing the 10696 brick box with a full-sized green baseplate, you are essentially buying a complete workshop in one go.

In my view, this is the most practical choice for those who intend to build elaborate landscapes or town scenes immediately. You gain the versatility of the loose bricks alongside the structural integrity of the plate.

The most interesting feature here is the sheer density of bricks packed into a single container, which feels like an endless resource for any project. It moves beyond simple starter sets by providing a substantial volume of pieces that allow for more ambitious, larger-scale constructions.

I consider this the gold standard because it offers the best overall value for those who already have a basic grasp of building techniques. It provides the freedom to create almost anything without constantly running out of common components.

The most common complaint involves the lack of a clear theme, but this is actually a strength for those who prefer open-ended design. While some might miss the guided manuals of specialized sets, the inclusion of three different colored baseplates provides a canvas that justifies the price.

I think this package is best for the creative power-user who wants to stop following directions and start designing their own world. It gives you the infrastructure to build multiple scenes at once.

This set offers a more focused color palette compared to the large boxes, which helps in creating visually cohesive models. If you compare it to the previous large-scale sets, you will notice that this one prioritizes variety in shades over sheer bulk.

I believe this is a fantastic choice for those who want to build specific color-themed structures or patterns. It removes the clutter of odd, mismatched pieces by keeping the selection bright and intentional.

This set gained a reputation for being the ultimate stockpile for serious builders, and my analysis confirms that it lives up to that hype. It provides a massive volume of bricks that effectively ends the problem of always needing just one more piece.

While the box is heavy, I find that it is an efficient way to acquire a high number of parts without paying the premium associated with branded or licensed sets. It is the closest thing to buying in bulk while still getting the high quality of standard bricks.

The main reason this set ranks where it does is its focused instruction set, which teaches structural concepts better than a random bin of parts. It provides a guided experience that helps newer builders understand how to construct windows, doors, and roof slopes.

I think this is perfect for someone who is slightly intimidated by the blank page of a generic box. It bridges the gap between following a set plan and total creative freedom.

This is best for the systematic builder who wants to layer their creations on multiple levels using the included wheels and windows. It provides all the mechanical components needed to build moving vehicles or complex structures.

In my view, the inclusion of four different baseplates makes this the most versatile foundation for a budding architect. It is a complete package for those who want to build, drive, and display their creations.
